a very happy day

Happy Birthday, Love!
It's hard to believe that we've spent the last nine birthdays together. So many wonderful memories and adventures have been had between those birthdays. From days as students at JBU, to becoming Mr. & Mrs. and moving into our little Fayetteville town home. Such sweet memories of being newlyweds! Our only regret being we didn't tie-the-knot sooner.

We then braved the move to Denver with all our belongings in tow. We had always dreamt of living in Colorado so we packed up and headed west. I still remember pulling into Denver and feeling so small in our Penske truck. The realization of moving to a big city hit me like a wave. I was overwhelmed and pretty scared at the thought of calling Denver home (traffic on 70 could scare anyone). But you were my rock. You simply smiled and told me about the great adventures we'd most certainly have together in our new home; making me feel safe and excited about what was ahead.

On that day, I could have never guessed the many adventures we'd share over the next five years. Camping trips, paddling Lake Dillon, weekend snowboarding adventures, Lotus driving, weekends at the cabin, the winter X-Games, exploring delicious restaurants, Park Hyatt Beaver Creek getaways, Redrocks concerts, stream-side picnics, Beau Jo's, jeeping treks, Country Road Cafe and Cabins, afternoons spent sailing Soda Lake, Saturday hikes, backyard dining, the turning of aspens, and building a home that we've come to love so very much. Oh the memories we've made. Each year gets sweeter and sweeter.

I am so incredibly blessed to call you my husband, Adam. Blessed to be celebrating this day with you. Blessed to be spending my life with you. And blessed to have many, many more birthdays to look forward to. You are my favorite and my best.

So today we celebrate you! We celebrate the amazing man that you are and how much you mean to us.

Dad Andrus:
Dear Adam (or am I suppose to say Counselor when addressing an attorney?)

Happy Birthday! I remember the year when you were about six and we had a minor blizzard on your birthday. I hope today is a beautiful day in Denver. We are so proud of you and are certainly looking forward to what this year will bring for you and Abby. Especially a move back closer to your dear ol' dad.

As I recall, the rental company moved so I suppose you are not driving around the mountains in a Lotus today. Well, unless Abby bought you one! Enjoy a pint on me at Baker Street Pub.

I love you,
Dad

Mom Andrus:
Dear Adam Roth,
Happy, happy birthday! We hope it's a fun one for you! I have lots of happy memories of our birthdays and your growing up years; everything from tricycles to Jeeps! From floating in inner tubes in the lake and down the river waterskiing! Kayaks and canoes. Taking you to New Life Ranch, teaching your Sunday school class, Awana Olympics, dropping you off at the Lighthouse Youth Group with your guitar. Nic and Nick, Derek, Jordan, Branton and "Ice." Birthdays with the Chuggs from Kansas City Christian. Paintball guns and BB guns, climbing gear and more.

When you were little, just a pre-schooler, Papa used to take a day off work and I would pack you guys a lunch, then off you'd go to Lake Weddington to spend part of your birthday in the woods! We're looking foward to spending a few more birthdays with you, and Abby too. We love you both lots and lots! Happy 28th! Hugs, Kisses and prayers.

Love,
Mom

Anna:
Happy Birthday Adam!
I hope it's going to be a beautiful day for you in Denver. I'm so thankful to have you as my big brother and I'm really looking forward to having you and Abby so much closer to us! It's been fun visiting you guys in Denver, but it's really about time for you to come back. I hope it's a really great birthday for you, and I'm confident that your wife will make sure it is!

And just for fun...a few birthday facts for you:
-October 29th is the 302nd day of the year (303rd in leap years).
-Winona Ryder's birthday is also today.
-Mozart's opera Don Giovanni received its first performance in Prague 225 years ago today.
-Benito Mussolini was appointed Prime Minister of Italy 90 years ago today (not the happiest of historical facts, but interesting all the same).
-"Your Sun is in Scorpio in the Scorpio decanate and the Scorpio quadrant." (I have no idea what that means, but according to the one astrology website I briefly browsed, it would make you an excellent detective.)

Love you.
Anna

Ethan:
Hey Adam, happy birthday! I really appreciate having you as my big brother! Thanks for the cool tent! Let's go camping! Hope to see you sometime soon.

Ethan

Abbi:
Happy birthday Adam! I am so proud of you and all that you've accomplished! I appreciate your godly example to those around you! I am praying for you as you get ready to enter the field of law and all that it will require of you! I hope you have a fabulous year ahead and receive many blessings from the Lord!

I love you very much!
Abbi

Micah:
Happy birthday Uncle Adam! You're one of the best uncles in the whole wide world! I really wanna play dinosaur hide and seek the next time you and Aunt Abby come to visit. I love you and miss you!

Love,
Micah

Mom Smith:
Dearest Adam,
Happy birthday! I know that you will have a great celebration in honor of this special day. Abby is looking forward to making it a memory.

As you may have guessed, you are my FAVORITE son-in-law! Your entrance into our family over eight years ago has truly made our family complete. God has gifted you with many talents and abilities which we have appreciated as we have reaped the benefits of those gifts. But what has impacted us the most is your quiet and gentle spirit that guides you as you relate to others. You are the ship's rudder that knows where it is going. You are steady, and unwavering.

I have seen you grow and mature from the young man that we met at your first cabin visit. I was as impressed then as I am now of your tenderness towards Abby as you love and care for her. That is something that is always at the pinnacle for a daddy as he gives her daughter away to the man she has chosen to be her husband. Bob could not have been more pleased with Abby's choice. You are like him in many ways and he loved you like a son.

Your love for Jesus and your godly example of a Christian husband is truly the most important thing guiding your life and your marriage. I pray God's richest blessing on you as you begin a new chapter in your life and continue seeking His purpose for you as a husband, father, friend, and young lawyer.

Much love,
Mom Smith

Em:
Adam,
I feel so blessed to call you family! You are an exceptional husband, a loving son, a doting uncle, a kind-hearted friend, and such a fun brother-in-law. Brian and I always look forward to the time we are able to spend with you and are so excited for the day when you live just a couple miles away. Hope this birthday is your best yet!

Love you,
Emily

Boone:
Dear Uncle Adam, thank you for playing with me and holding me when I cry and for showing me cool guy things.

I luv u,
Boone

Brian:
Adam,
It's hard to believe another year has gone by and I am excited for you as you start year number 28! Not only will it be a year of change as you guys move to Wichita, but one for much celebrating as you complete law school. I am so proud of your hard work in school but more proud to have you as a brother. The Lord has indeed gifted you with a calm spirit and a sensitivity that I greatly appreciate. You are a wonderful blessing in the family. May the Lord continue to bless you this next year. Love you and happy birthday!

Love,
B

Grandma Andrus:
Dear Adam,
I wish you joy on your birthday. I'm confident that long before you reach my age, we will all be celebrating our New Birth with our Lord!

I love you,
Grandma Andrus

Grandpa and Grandma Smith:
Adam,
Wow! Twenty eight years - you old man! Grandma and I can remember driving through a beautiful southern Missouri/northern Arkansas in late October to see our first grandson. What a joy!

Then came the challenges; a little guy that believed he could climb anything, from railings to trees to porch roofs. He then grew to an inventor who would take apart anything to make something else. This required grandpa to keep a stock of batteries on hand!

Then there was the swimmer that would get blue lips and end the swimming session with a hot bath. Grandma remembers the time we came home from Show Biz Pizza - your comment upon arriving home was that it was a good thing you were not going swimming because you would sink due to all the pizza you had eaten!

Next came very early morning trips to electronic stores following major holidays to get the latest gadgets. Then there were trips to the big city for paintball supplies.

An then, the crowning trip to set in motion a sequence of stops for someone to check out a special dress that would eventually lead to an "engagement party" on the Plaza.

It has been great watching all of this come about. We love you grandson - happy birthday!

Love,
Grandpa and Grandma Smith

To you on your birthday, my Love.
